Herkimer Crime 2016 – 20,421 Worldwide Views

by Stephen Ames Berry

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.” Albert Einstein

Forget Herkimer diamonds. Crime-ridden Herkimer New York’s greatest attraction is the village’s anarchic three-ring circus of brazen criminals, trafficker-coddling cops and willfully failed governance. In 2016, Herkimer’s unchecked, in-your-face lawlessness brought The Herkimer Post and its YouTube videos over 20,000 worldwide views. The human fascination with the grotesque drove our annualized viewing audience up 33% from our last statistics posting in March of 2016.

The Herkimer Post enjoyed 8,432 page views from 2,379 readers across 6 continents in 57 countries, with an average of 1.95 minutes per view. Our YouTube videos–Herkimer crime, all the time–brought 11,989 worldwide views averaging 3.32 minutes apiece. Top Herkimer Twitter tweets sparked at least 13,674 impressions, engagements and retweets, which aren’t counted in the 20,421 tally.

Living in Herkimer Village is convenient: except for our Herkimer Meth Bridge series, we’ve rarely had to travel more than 20 meters from our home on Herkimer’s wistfully-named Pleasant Avenue to acquire source material: Herkimer criminals trying to drive us from our home and Herkimer cops trying to intimidate us into silence just kept coming into our cameras or onto our microphones.

Herkimer Crime 2016 Top Blog Post

Our top recorded blog post for 2016 was of our neighbor and first Herkimer visitor, young mom Melodie Shulze, who dropped by with her mom Melissa Shulze to cuss us out for photographing our street and accuse us therefore of being pedophiles. Although the incident occurred in 2015, Melodie Shulze’s elder abuse has proven an object of repugnant fascination both on our blog and YouTube. (Melodie recently vanished from our street following an unusual flurry of Child Protection Services’ activity.)

Joyce Barton and Douglas Barton Win Herkimer Crime 2016 Top Posts Tally

Otherwise it was a postings slugfest in lawlessness and depravity between 333 Pleasant Avenue’s Bartons and 328 Pleasant Avenue’s Curtis Cool. It was won by the Bartons with 4 top posts: Herkimer Man Sexually Abusing Car was our 2nd top post, harassment dished straight from the Barton’s as they gleefully helped harass our very pregnant daughter. (Captured on a highly visible surveillance camera. )

Three other top 2016 posts featuring appearances by Joyce Barton and or Douglas Barton were Drug Trafficking On Herkimer’s Slumlord Row, [VIDEOS]Herkimer Crime – Drunks Along the Mohawk [VIDEOS], and Mission Accomplished! Fire Chief Barton’s Fire Revisited. This last highlighted a forensic video analysis of then-Deputy Fire Chief Douglas Barton’s garage fire, coincident with what appeared to be a large state and federal crackdown on Herkimer’s abundant meth makers. (The Bartons have apparently since abandoned their home-based enterprises and seem to be scrambling to make ends meet.) The drug trafficking post and related videos are from 2015; they’ve taken on a life of their own, drawing viewers month after month. (IP addresses hint law enforcement may be using them for surveillance analysis training.)

Curtis Cool Takes Close 2nd In Herkimer Crime 2016 Top Postings Tally

Herkimer Court Clerk Harriett Tangorra’s long-time tenant Curtis Cool (aka Curtis Dolan) did well in three Herkimer Crime 2016 posts: Herkimer Thug Curtis Cool Again Fails to Burn Out Neighbors, in which his unchecked pyromania was on full display, and an associated post, Herkimer Fire Chief John Spanfelner Sees Nothing. But Curtis truly shined, along with Herkimer Police Officer Jason Crippin, in Herkimer Police & The Nanny Nanny Boo Boo. Accompanied by Curtis’ videoed zaniness, it relates how Officer Crippin gave us to understand that in Herkimer New York, the nanny nanny boo boo is exculpatory for criminal harassment. (As folks here sigh with a shrug, “It’s Herkimer.”)

Herkimer Crime 2016 – 11,989  YouTube Views

In 2016, Herkimer crime drew over 11,989 YouTube views in 51 countries with a total viewing time of 23,409 minutes, or 390 hours. (16.25 days.)

Our YouTube audience wasn’t the same as that of the The Herkimer Post: most YouTube viewers didn’t come from our blog posts, but from other YouTube viewers and referrers. Many of our videos contain links to our other Herkimer crime videos, making it possible to build viewership through a chain of referrals embedded in video descriptions, and also build blog readership through links to our blog. Curtis Cool’s 13 videos and the Barton’s 14 videos provided the virtual framework for widening our follower base.

In 2016, videos of Joyce and Douglas Bartons’ Pleasant Avenue activities had 6,815 views, with a watch time of 6,698 minutes, or 4.65 days. Their top video was 2015’s enduring Herkimer Crime on Parade – 333 Pleasant Avenue (5088 views). But Curtis Cool (aka Curtis Dolan) blew the Bartons’ Crime on Parade out of the water with his bravura performance in Curtis Cool Street Harassment of 6/11/16: 154 hours (9,224) minutes, or 6.40 days. Herkimer’s untouchable Golden Child’s criminal harassment of his elderly neighbors was watched by 2,385 people on 6 continents, just one of Curtis’ series of street harassment videos. (Curtis abruptly moved after we hinted in a post that he might be involved in darker things than drug dealing. “The guilty flee where no man pursues.”)

Honorable Herkimer Crime Mention: Herkimer’s Historic Crack House Keeper. 926 minutes, 611 views. Not an elder abuser street harasser on a par with Curtis Cool, but the only one to have physically assaulted me. (He appears to have been deleted from the ‘hood.)

Herkimer Crime 2016 On Twitter

I didn’t go through Twitter to extract the analytics of views of our Herkimer crime tweets, which are automatically tweeted by our blog upon posting. They’d have to have been ferreted out of Twitter tweet by tweet, and the analytics for each manually copied and totaled. No. Life is short, death is long.

I have 72,000 Twitter followers. All of my posts make an impression. The more colorful, such as those of our Apricot Emperor or Herkimer crime, often create a thousand or more impressions. I’ve no idea what an impression is, and, reading Twitter’s definition, neither does Twitter. But those tweets do leave a large and consistent impression of Herkimer, and it’s not pretty.

Here’s a typical Tweeter analytics summary of some Herkimer crime tweets:

Acknowledgments

We thank all who’ve read our blog or viewed our videos. We hope they’ve given you some insight into what failure of governance looks like, and the stark reality of life when crime rules the streets of a once pastoral village.

We’d like to also thank Herkimer’s Curtis Cool (aka Curtis Dolan), his landlady Harriett Tangorra, our neighbors Joyce Barton and Douglas Barton, Herkimer Police officers Patrolman Haight, Patrolman Jason Crippin and Sgt John Scholl II, and Herkimer Fire Chief John Spanfelner, for helping make 2016 a very successful year for The Herkimer Post. Forward together into the New Year.

A sincere and especially heartfelt thanks to the New York State Police, Night Court, Trapper Ron, the New York State Intelligence Center, the US Drug Enforcement Agency and other US Department of Homeland Security entities, without whose officers’ vigilance and dedication to duty this post wouldn’t have been written.

And a big tip of the hat to Herkimer’s resident drones and their watchful wizards.

Dealing with the neighborhood bully

by Linda Kaidan

Herkimer's Curtis Cool aka Curtis Dolan bullies neighbors again
Nanny Nanny Boo Boo Gesture

How should you deal with a bully who repeatedly threatens you with bodily harm and sets dangerous and illegal fires?

 Should you –

a. Hide in your home

b. Make the nanny nanny boo boo gesture

c. Record them on your phone and make fun of them

d. Just ignore them

e. Report them to the police as being guilty of NY State 240.25 – Harassment in the first degree.

When queried, a Herkimer policeman replied a or d. I prefer a lovely medley of b, c and e.

Don’t take assault threats lightly

While Curtis Cool is very entertaining in a B-horror movie sort of way, his egregious and repeated assault threats are not to be taken lightly. Even more disturbing are his repeated and well documented illegal fires. These fires are not only a threat to the annoying neighbors who are always calling the police on him, they are a threat to the lives and property of all those who dwell nearby.

Doing nothing means you agree to be a victim

When you refuse to stand up to bullies and drug dealers you are silently agreeing to live in a criminal society. In a criminal society you will be a victim and your quality of life and property values will decline. The police will support criminals because of fear, undeclared income, or both. When you call the police they will not be on your side.

I believe that standing up to bullies and drug dealers is necessary even if they threaten you with bodily harm. If you don’t, they’ll overrun your community and make your life a living hell. Silence is acquiescence to the dominion of chaos and evil. Those who do not fight for their rights will not have them.

Graphically violent threats

Curtis Cool, aka Curtis Dolan, made the following threats to me and or my husband while trying to denying me the right to stand on a public sidewalk within 4 feet of my driveway:

“I’ll smash your teeth in.”

“I’m going to knock you out.”

“I’m beating the fuck out of both of you.”

“I’m going to smash you to pieces.”

And my husband’s favorite Curtis quote:

Violating NY S 240.25

In this clip from Curtis Cool’s latest adventure in neighborly threat of bodily harm, you’ll see him violate NY State Law S 240.25, Harassment in the First Degree:

A person is guilty of harassment in the first degree when he or she intentionally and repeatedly harasses another person by following such person in or about a public place or places or by engaging in a course of conduct or by repeatedly committing acts which places such person in reasonable fear of physical injury.   Harassment in the first degree is a class B misdemeanor.

Herkimer Thug Curtis Cool Again Fails to Burn Out Neighbors

by Stephen Ames Berry

328 Pleasant Avenue Herkimer illegal fire set by tenants
Another, much larger, 328 Pleasant Avenue fire set by drug thug tenants. 5.7.16

For the second time in two weeks,  328 Pleasant Avenue Herkimer thug Curtis Cool again fails to burn out neighbors. Though not for want of trying. This time he apparently used an accelerant, and was simultaneously joined in his pyromania by neighboring fire builders at Jay Smith’s 326 Pleasant Avenue rental property. Though there’s was nothing compared to Cool’s fire.

A bonfire worthy of a 4th of July Back in the Day, it lasted 3.5 hours, from exactly 2100 hrs to about 0030, and was unattended while still burning briskly for at least an hour. (Except for Curtis Cool’s unsupervised kids poking it with sticks.) Below is a short video edited from security camera footage, followed by a longer video.

  • 2015:28  The fire at 326 Pleasant Avenue begins first
  • 2100 328 Pleasant Avenue fire explodes into life – obvious use of an accelerant
  • 2108 2nd use of large quantity of accelerant. Intensity of fire’s heat signature blinds camera’s infrared sensors. People stay well clear.
  • 2111 Actual fire column become clearer as thermal heat signature lessens.
  • 2112 Fire clearly defined. Large, intense. People stand away from the heat.
  • End of clip: Shrieking children cavort in yard. (We heard.)
  • The structure to the fire rear is a portable screened picnic pavilion. Probably not fireproof.

Here’s the longer director’s cut. (Same price.) Note sparks sailing into the trees:

328 Pleasant AVenue’s Previous Fire Incident

The last fire incident at 328 Pleasant Avenue was at 1 am on 4/25. The Herkimer police gave it a pass, the responding officer declaring the uncovered fire to be covered. (I saw it. I heard him. It was not covered.) Before his arrival, my 61 year-old wife Linda was abused by squad of racist Herkimer thugs lead by Curtis Cool, aka Curtis Dolan, who were enjoying the illegal blaze. (Probably burning books.) Curtis Cool’s krew have made 328 Pleasant Avenue their wee hours clubhouse. Sadly, we did not have a camera in range of that ugly event. This time we did.

Fire being a silent killer, we slept through this latest event. Only in the morning, having partially heard 328’s Pleasant Avenue’s resident thug-in-chief abuse yet another upset neighbor, did we look at our security cam footage. (Whomever you are, thank you for that.)

What’s Next?

328 Pleasant Avenue is owned by Mrs. Harriett Tangorra, Sr. Clerk of the Herkimer County Supreme Court.  We bought our house, 330, from her. 328 was her family home for many years. She’s trying to sell it and I’m sure is very unhappy about all of this. Last night I texted her, attaching a screenshot of this latest fire. I suspect she is doing something about it.

The Herkimer police: been there, done that. Neither the Herkimer Police Department nor the Herkimer Fire Department will own up to having a public email address. (They do.) As usual with crime postings, I’ll share this with the State Police in Albany for forwarding to the Herkimer Police. They have that email address.

If there’s anything else in that 3.5 hours of fire footage, I’ll post it. We’ll be having more postings on 328 Pleasant Avenue Curtis Cool’s antics and that of his  friends.

328 Pleasant Ave Herkimer — Abuse, Abusers and Drug Trafficking Likely to Be Squashed by Video Surveillance

by  Stephen Ames Berry

328 Pleasant Ave Herkimer Abused Dog Abused dog, 328 Pleasant Ave, looking for food in our yard

Abusers and drug trafficking can be effectively restrained by comprehensive video surveillance. For those who read our post about the abused dog at 328 Pleasant Avenue, used in an obvious malicious harassment attempt by our neighbor, 328’s Curtis Cool, aka Curtis Dolan, the dog is gone. I copied the property’s owner, Harriet Tangorra, on our post and she said she’d promptly served Curtis Cool and his caretaker Cheyenne with an eviction notice via Attorney George Aney; their lease has a “No Pets”clause. They “cured” their deficiency by disposing of the dog. He was  a huge, good-natured, utterly untrained short-haired hunting dog whose unfortunate behavior was the result of abuse and neglect.

Starving, freezing, howling piteously

The poor animal was left outside, ignored and unsheltered, without food or water, even in the depths of winter, often howling piteously as the temperatures plummeted, and day turned to night amid wind and snow. We and other neighbors often called the police. Officer Josh, the dog officer, always promptly responded whatever the time or the weather. Once Josh had to get police assistance to gain access. Another time he took the dog away, but it was soon back, still terribly malnourished and often without water. May the dog have found a better home where people at feed and shelter him, and perhaps kids play with him rather than ignore him. (If he had a name, we never heard anyone use it.)

328 Pleasant Ave –Abuse and abusers

Those who abuse animals are quick to abuse others, notably children and the elderly. If you follow The Herkimer Post, you’ll know that my 61 year old wife Linda was 328 Pleasant Ave’s most recent known victim of abuse, set upon in the dead of night by a gang of anti-Semitic thugs lead by Herkimer’s Curtis Cool, aka Curtis Dolan, from 328. It’s well known hereabouts that Linda’s Jewish. It was ugly, despicable and conjured images of a horrific past:

Abuse is a classic drug gang tactic used to control turf and stifle opposition. Drug traffickers abuse animals and children to pervert them to their own ends. We’ve often seen such terrorism on Herkimer’s Pleasant Avenue, and have been the brunt of it.

Herkimer’s Pleasant Avenue Child Abusers and Drug Trafficking

Old folks and pets aren’t the major victims of abusers on Pleasant Avenue–children abused by their  parents are. Exploiting or corrupting is emotional abuse “in which a child is taught, encouraged or forced to develop inappropriate or illegal behaviors,” says the American Humane Society. “It may involve self-destructive or antisocial acts of the parent or caregiver, such as teaching a child how to steal or forcing a child into prostitution.”

On Herkimer’s Pleasant Avenue, when criminal parents weaponize their children through abuse, its primarily to harass and dissuade neighbors from cooperating with authorities in suppressing the parents’ drug trafficking. Homeowners with surveillance cameras are a prime target–cameras don’t sleep and they never lie. We have 8 honest cameras.

Harassment–A sign of drug trafficking

The first sign that a house is involved in drug trafficking isn’t always its street traffic, but its residents’ reaction to a surveillance camera–even if it’s not pointed at them. It’s the pattern that’s emerging at 328 Pleasant Ave.

The child abusing parents cry “Pedophiles!” and “Our children! Our Children!”even as they send their weaponized kids to vandalize and criminally trespass on properties with cameras. When their children are outed by cameras, their abusive parents resume the cry of of “Pedophile!” and assail you at your door or on the street screaming, “I don’t want my kid on the Internet!” (This behavior has madeHerkimer’s Melodie Schulze the Internet’s icon of elder abuse. Just Google her name and up she pops. ) Recently we’ve had a parade of angry mothers of criminally trespassing children trespass to demand that we take down video evidence of their kids’ misdeeds.  Not gonna happen. Get some, help, people.

328 Pleasant Ave. Drug Trafficking – What’s Next

When we suspect a neighbor is drug trafficking, as indicated by abuse, harassment and vandalism, we increase surveillance and analyze traffic patterns. The results are sent to the New York State Police, and  information may be shared with Federal authorities. This strategy has been remarkably successful in shutting down 333 Pleasant Avenue.

Video surveillance is very effective at fighting crime, especially when abusers and drug trafficking are involved. To avoid further unwanted attention, the folks at 328 Pleasant Ave. could move. Mrs. Tangorra is eager to sell that property. And more nice neighbors would be cool.

1 AM Fire at 328 Pleasant Ave Herkimer — Police Say Safe!

remains of open late night fire at 228 pleasant ave Herkimer
Remains of open blaze at 328 Pleasant Ave Herkimer

One AM and all is not well

Last night at about 1:00 AM I was woken by the sound of rustling next to my back fence, which has been vandalized many times. I also heard the chinking sound of glass bottles. I thought to myself, at last I’ll catch red-handed the vandals who’ve been making holes in my fence. I discovered a fire in the backyard of Harriett Tangorra’s rental propterty at 328 Pleasant Avenue..

328 Pleasant Ave Herkimer NY
328 Pleasant Ave Herkimer

When I looked out the window, I saw a bonfire with sparks flying everywhere, notably into the tree limbs. Such fires, even when supervised, are very dangerous. When it is dry as it is now, they can easily spread to fences and homes. Antique homes can be burnt to the ground in 3 minutes because the wood is so dry!

1 AM yard blaze Herkimer police deemed safe - seen from window

I called the Herkimer police, who came and quickly went with the belief that this fire was safely under control, neglecting that fact that an open fire within 100 yards of a structure is illegal within the Village of Herkimer.

With great consternation, I ventured outside to assess the situation personally. Three tall, thirtyish, burly gentlemen wearing army camos surrounded the backyard fire at 328 Pleasant Ave. One, later identified as Harriett Tangorra’s tenant Curtis Cool, aka Curtis Dolan, challenged me when I said I objected to their fire. Calling me names, Curtis Cool told me to “go back to some Arab country.”  (I’m Jewish, a 4th generation American, educated in Israel.)

Ho Hum – More Neighborly Harassment

Curtis Cool’s pack of cowardly loafers enjoyed harassing their elderly neighbor, with Cool calling me a crazy, lying, swearing, child molester who should be sent to a loony bin. All accused me of instigating the altercation, though I told them that their illegal fire had woken me up and that I had to go to work at 5:00 AM.

My husband then again called the Herkimer Police. Again. It says much about Herkimer’s rich tradition of lawlessness that the responding officer didn’t enforce the law, allowing the thugs to continue with their illegal open fire, its embers flying within 3 feet of tinder dry fencing. It was sad to know that this officer seemed entirely unaware of the massive harassment and vandalism caused by this neighbor and others.

Neighboring children have been sent to molest us in our own yard breaking holes in our fence in order to trespass and despoil our yard with trash.  We have captured these actions on video, and posted them on this blog. It seems to be nearly impossible to repel these weaponized, vandalizing children from our privacy-fenced yard, even with a locked gate and multiple security cameras.

Advice to Herkimer Village administrators concerned with  community safety

  • Please make sure your officers can distinguish between a safe fire and an unsafe one.  Please don’t call an open fire a covered one.
  • BTW, it’s quite evident from the above photo that this fire you described as safe is not and such fires should not be legal in this area at any time of day!
  • I have heard there are 3 criminal hot spots in Herkimer, of which Pleasant Ave is one and 328 Pleasant Ave all too typical. Would it be too much trouble to acquaint your officers with the ongoing criminal activity in this area?

Doggy Whodunit Mystery

328 Pleasant Ave Herkimer's Curtis Cool aka Curtis Dolan's abused dog foraging in our yard.
Neighbor Curtis Cool’s starving, abused dog in our yard.

As I was gardening in my backyard this morning, a hungry dog stood in our neighbor Curtis Cool’s (aka Curtis Dolan) yard at 328 Pleasant Ave., watching and perhaps waiting for the arrival of his meal, any meal – just something to fill the gnawing emptiness in the pit of his stomach. Suddenly he smelled something heavenly in my compost heap. Experiencing what must have been boundless joy, he heaved with all his might and succeeded in pushing a hole through the fence. Immediately upon entering my yard, he hungrily foraged in the compost.

Since when do dogs yearn for veggies?

vegetarian dog
Is this a vegetarian dog?

My compost is entirely vegetable. It contains absolutely no meat products. How could any dog hope to find any meat in this compost heap?

My mystery questions

2016-03-13 10.52.10

  1. Did someone enable this dog’s escape by starving him and burying a treat in that compost heap?
  2. Why was such a neat and handy hole punched in this fence? I guess that dog must be a superior carpenter.
  3. Why was there a six-foot blue rope tying the dog’s choke chain to a long leash giving him the ability to reach a good 10 feet into my yard? Could the intention have been to ultimately free him from the tree in his yard that he was sadly anchored to?

Can you solve this doggy whodunit mystery? I certainly have some theories.

The Damages

The poor starving dog knocked over my gardening bench and all the pots that I was organizing for spring garden planting.  He also jumped on me causing me to stumble backwards. I nearly lost my balance and could have been seriously injured in the fall.

A Better Way

Dogs should be fed each day and treated with respect. They should be trained not to hurt people and destroy property. Dog owners should take care that their pets don’t go astray.
